Synopsis in German
Orfamay Quest (Sharon Farrell) ist äußerlich bestimmt nicht der Frauentyp, den Männer aufregend finden. Die unscheinbare Blondine aus Kansas möchte, dass Privatdetektiv Philip Marlowe (James Garner) ihren verschwundenen Bruder aufspürt, anscheinend ein Dutzendfall, der die Mühe nicht lohnt. Marlowe ist denn auch schon drauf und dran, die junge Frau abzuwimmeln, als die Geschichte eine unerwartete Wendung nimmt. Ein Mann, dem er bei seinen ersten Nachforschungen nach Orfamays Bruder begegnete, wird unter Umständen ermordet, die den Detektiv stutzig machen. Als er der Sache nachgeht, sieht er sich bald immer tiefer in eine blutige Affäre verwickelt, in der der Fernsehstar Mavis Wald (Gayle Hunnicutt) und der Gangster Sonny Steelgrave (H. M. Wynant) undurchsichtige Rollen spielen. Anscheinend werden sie erpresst, und die attraktive Mexikanerin Dolores Gonzales (Rita Moreno) weiß vermutlich mehr über die Schwierigkeiten der beiden, als sie zugeben möchte ... (ARD Presse)
