German title: Die Krone des Lebens Reviews in German: "Eine melodramatische Episodeaus dem Leben des amerikanischen Schriftstellers F. Scott Fitzgeralde («Der grosse Gatsby«), der 1940 seelisch und körperlich gebroch in Hollywood starb. Sie konzentriert sich auf das Verhältnis des Helden mit einer Gesellschaftsreporterin: eine ölig-elegante Liebesromanze, in der Fitzgeralds tragische und widerborstige Persönlichkeit, die nicht zuletzt an der Unmenschlichkeit der Traumfabrik scheiterte (jahrelang arbeitete er glücklos als Lohnschreiber für Filmskripte) illusionär verklärt und sentimental verkitscht wird." "Beloved Infidel" ist ein Film, für den Peck nicht viel Achtung hegt. Der Film ist wieder einmal ein beispiel dafür, dass Hollywood offenbar nicht imstande ist, einen ehrlichen Film über seine eigenen Leute zu machen. (Tony Thomas, Gregory Peck, Seine Filme - Sein Leben, Heyne, pg 121)
