«Das atemlose Tempo des ersten Indy-Films setzte hohe Maßstäbe. Aber das Triumvirat aus Spielberg, Ford und Produzent George Lucas hatte dabei so viel Spaß (und verdiente so gewaltig daran), dass es sich beim Sequel ordentlich ins Zeug legte (Oscar für Spezialeffekte). Auch in Indien strickt Indy im Kampf gegen einen menschenopfernden Hohepriester kräftig an seiner Action-Legende. Die brutalen Szenen in diesem "Familienfilm" führten in den USA zu der neuen Altersfreigabe "ab 13 Jahren".
