Jim Douglass ist nach Rio Arriba gekommen, um an der Hinrichtung der vier Verbrecher Alfonso Parral, Lujan, Ed Taylor und Bill Zachary teilzunehmen, die bei einem Raubüberfall festgenommen wurden; Jim Douglass glaubt, daß dies die Männer sind, die vor einem halben Jahr seine Frau vergewaltigt und ermordet haben. Die Todeskandidaten brechen aus, und Douglass nimmt mit anderen Männern die Verfolgung auf. Seine frühere Geliebte Josefa Velarde, der er in Rio Arriba wiederbegegnet ist, kümmert sich indessen um seine Ranch und sein mutterloses Kind. Douglass stellt Parral und erschießt ihn, obwohl der Bandit beteuert, mit dem Mord an der Frau nichts zu tun zu haben. Auch Ed Taylor, den Douglass bei der weiteren Verfolgung überwältigt, beschwört seine Unschuld an der Tat; aber Douglass hängt ihn auf. Der dritte Bandit, Bill Zachary, ermordet auf seiner Flucht den Besitzer einer Goldmine und vergewaltigt das Mädchen Emma, das er als Geisel mit sich führt. (Hembus, Western-Lexikon)
