Synopsis in German
In einem Schloss in Ungarn lebt zurückgezogen der alte Graf von Teröcky mit Tochter und Dienerschaft. In einem Zimmer, das seitdem ständig verschlossen gehalten wird, ist dort vor zehn Jahren eine Frau ermordet worden. Da erscheint in einer Wiener Zeitung ein Inserat mit einem Foto der Frau und der Frage: "Wer kennt diese Frau?" Stephan Kovazs, der Schlosskastellan, nimmt heimlich Verbindung mit dem Inserenten auf, trifft sich mit ihm, zeigt ihm das Zimmer und händigt ihm dem Schlüssel aus. Von nun an hört man Klopfgeräusche aus dem Zimmer. Wenig später wird das Zimmer geöffnet, und dort liegt die Leiche des Mannes. Ein Kriminalkommissar, der sich unerkannt in der Gegend aufhält, kann den Fall klären: Es war Kovazs, der sowohl die Frau, eine Diamantendiebin, ermordete, als auch ihren Komplizen, der jetzt begann, nach der Beute zu suchen.
