"Alex «Hitch» Hitchens (Will Smith) ist ein «Date Doctor», der dem männlichen Trampeltier im Grossstadtgelände New York Nachhilfestunden im amourösen Fach erteilt. Männer sollen Frauen zuhören, ihnen in die Augen sehen, statt nur ins Décolleté zu glotzen, Neugier bekunden für das Geheimnis Frau. Der Nachhilfeunterricht gestaltet sich zumindest in der ersten Hälfte der Komödie anschaulich und vergnüglich, dann aber verliert der Film unter der Regie von Andy Tennant zusehends an Schwung, bis «Hitch» seiner Bestimmung, dem Happy End, lustlos entgegenkriecht."
