In einer bisher ruhigen Stellung am Westwall muß eine den Urlaub erwartende Gruppe zum Fronteinsatz. Sie täuscht erfindungsreich eine starke Besetzung vor; dazu gehört unter anderem ein wahnwitziger Angriff auf ein deutsches MG-Nest in einem Bunker. Hierbei tut sich ein eigenbrötlerischer Draufgänger hervor, der als Offiziersanwärter wegen Totschlags in Trunkenheit degradiert wurde.
