Remarks and general Information in German: W. K. L. Dickson war der Mann, der als Angestellter von Thomas A. Edison die entscheidende Leistung in der Erfindung des Films erbrachte. Für den von ihm entwickelten Kinetoscope, einen Guckkastenapparat, drehte er ca. 15 Meter lange Streifen, die zu einer Schleife geklebt und in einer Endlosprojektion abgespielt werden konnten. Der Betrachter sah in dem Apparat ein Bild von annähernd Postgartengröße.

"Die von Dickson gedrehten Streifen sind die ersten richtigen >Filme<" (Georges Sadoul, HISTOIRE DU CINEMA). Gegenstand dieser Filme waren die Jahrmarktsattraktionen der Zeit, und da die prominentesten dieser Attraktionen die Nummern aus Buffalo Bills Wild-West-Show waren, begann die Filmgeschichte mit diesen Zirkus-Versionen von Western-Sujets, vorgeführt von authentischen Figuren des Westens.
