Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) ist ein Supercop. Dass die Arrest-Rate des humorlosen Vorzeigebeamten glatte 400 Prozent über der seiner neidischen Kollegen liegt, macht ihn herzlich unbeliebt. Deshalb wird er von Chief Inspector Kenneth (Bill Nighy) kurzerhand zum Sergeant befördert und ins Provinzkaff Sandford verbannt. Sogleich setzt sich der übereifrige Hotshot in die Nesseln - auch beim neuen Partner, dem schwerfälligen Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), mit dem er fortan Schwäne fangen muss.
