Szenen aus dem Alltag der untergehenden Sowjetunion: Die Ärztin Natascha reagiert hysterisch auf die Einsamkeit nach dem Tod ihres Mannes. Der Lehrer Nikolaj verfällt depressiver Schläfrigkeit und stirbt schliesslich während einer U-Bahnfahrt. Künstler inszenieren nackte Körper zu Bildern der Kommunikationslosigkeit. Man streitet sich in langen Warteschlangen um rationierte Waren und schwatzt von Liebe.
