Synopsis in German
Episodenfilm: Der gefallene Engel Satanas ist verdammt dazu, in verschiedenen Gestalten durch die Zeiten zu streifen und die Menschen dazu zu bringen, Böses zu tun.
1. Episode "Der Tyrann": Zeit der Pharaonen. Ein alter Einsiedler bringt den Hirten Jorab dazu, zum Geliebten des Weibs des Pharaos zu werden. Jorabs eifersüchtige Geliebte Nouri verrät die Beiden. Der Pharao lässt Jorab und Nouri hinrichten.
2. Episode "Der Fürst": Renaissance. Ein spanischer Abenteurer führt die schöne Mörderin Lucrezia Borgia nach Venedig, wo sie eine Affäre mit dem jungen Gennaro hat, der, wie sich herausstellt, ihr eigener Sohn ist. Sie bringen sich gegenseitig um.
3. Episode "Der Diktator": Gegenwart. Ein bolschewistischer Agitator macht den jungen Studenten Hans zum Revolutionsführer. Hans steigt zum Diktator auf, der ein blutiges Regime führt. Auch seine Eltern kommen um. Als seine Geliebte versucht, ihn umzubringen, lässt Hans sie hinrichten. Am Ende wird er wahnsinnig. (www.filmportal.de)

Es ist die eigentliche Revolte, die bei Wiene unplastisch wirkt und die Murnau in hastig mit Bleistift hingeworfenen Einfällen, kurze Einstellungen auf einzelne Personen und Angaben zu ihrem Gebaren belebt., noch haften in seinem Gedächtnis Szenen der Revolution, die er eben miterlebt hat."
