La guerre des fils de lumière contre les fils des ténèbres ist der Mitschnitt eines Stücks, das Amos Gitai am Festival von Avignon inszenierte – eine Adaption der Geschichte des jüdischen Krieges des Historikers Flavius Josephus (1. Jh. n. Chr.). Darin wird erzählt, wie der jüdische Staat als Folge des Kriegs gegen die Römer seine Souveränität verlor. Die wichtigsten Etappen sind dabei die Einnahme Jerusalems, die Zerstörung des Tempels und der Fall von Massada. Bei der Inszenierung in der magischen Carrière Boulbon, einem Steinbruch im Süden von Avignon, sass Jeanne Moreau an einem Tisch und spielte den Part des Autors. Schauspieler, welche die Figuren aus dem Buch verkörperten, umgaben sie in dieser ebenso poetischen wie politischen Reflexion über den heutigen Nahen Osten. Für Amos Gitai ist Flavius Josephus' Text «Teil seiner Phantome», und es erschien ihm wichtig, ihn auch heute wieder zu Gehör zu bringen. (Locarno Festival 2009 Katalog)
