Remarks and general Information in German: Von diesem Film existiert auch eine etwa 32 minuten Lange Version unter dem Titel "Vendetta", in der nicht nur viel von der poetischen Schönheit der Bilder verloren gegangen ist, sondern die auch eine völlig andere Aussage der Geschichte hat. Während im Original (in einer Kopie der Cinémathèque Françcaise erhaltenen Version) die Geschichte des Outlaws Francesco della Rocca eng verwoben wird sowhl mit der Tochter des Fabrikanten wie auch mit der Frau des Gendarmen, fehlt in der Kurzfassung der Bezug zu dieser völlig. Sie ist es dann, die della Rocca wieder aus dem Gefängnis befreit, nachdem er sich den Gendarmen gestellt hatte, während er in der Kurzfassung in seiner Zelle auf die Verurteilung (und den sicheren Tod) wartet. Im Original kehrt della Rocca ins Maquis zurück, und die letzten Einstellungen zeigen ihn mit seinem Onkel und seinem Neffen, es bleibt offen, welche der beiden Frauen zu ihm stossen wird. (lhg)
