Synopsis in German
Der sympathische Gauner Mario Forni (Ray Milland) ist unter dem Vorwand, bei der Renovierung der durch ein Erdbeben zerstörten Kirche helfen zu wollen, in den kleinen italienischen Ort Tolino gekommen. In Wirklichkeit hofft Mario jedoch, in der Kirche einen geheimen Goldschatz zu finden. Deshalb hält er sich auch bisweilen des Nachts in der Ruine des Gotteshauses auf. So wird er unfreiwillig Zeuge einer verzweifelten Anrufung des heiligen Josef durch die junge Prostituierte Pia Pacelli (Barbara Eden). Sie ist schwanger von ihrem Freund Beppo (Carl Schell). Doch der hat, anstatt sich über die Nachricht zu freuen, den Macho rausgekehrt und gemeint, das Kind könne auch von jedem anderen sein. Pias verzweifelte Zwiesprache mit dem Heiligen bewegt Mario, ihr aus seinem Versteck gut zuzureden. Pia glaubt an ein Wunder und verbreitet in ganz Tolino, dass der heilige Josef zu ihr gesprochen habe . . . (ZDF Presse)
