Der Jazztrompeter Jonny Schulz reist in den Schwarzwald, wo er überraschend seinen Freund Martin wiedertrifft. Martin leitet eine Holzfällerkolonne, die für den reichen Sägewerksbesitzer Bruckner arbeitet. Bruckner umwirbt die hübsche Kati, Tochter des Gutsbesitzers Ertl, der Rennpferde züchtet und in großen finanziellen Schwierigkeiten steckt. Kati könnte ihrem Vater helfen, indem sie Bruckner heiratet. Sie liebt jedoch Martin, der sich ebenfalls zu ihr hingezogen fühlt. Jonny wiederum ist auf dem besten Weg, das Herz der Wirtstochter Rosl zu erobern. Als sich eine Gelegenheit für Katis Vater zerschlägt, zu Geld zu kommen, entschließt sich die junge Frau schweren Herzens, Bruckner das Jawort zu geben, um den Hof ihres Vaters zu retten. Doch dann kommt es zu einer überraschenden Wendung. (BR Presse)
