Tim Haffling, der wegen der Ermordung der 16-jährigen Miriam seit fast zehn Jahren eine lebenslange Haftstrafe absaß, hat in seiner Zelle Selbstmord begangen. Nun taucht plötzlich Jens Baumann bei Kriminalhauptkommissar Hanns von Meuffels auf und bekennt sich zu der Tat, für die Haffling einsaß. Hanns von Meuffels führte damals die polizeilichen Ermittlungen. Und auch, wenn die Leiche des jungen Mädchens nie gefunden wurde, sprachen alle Indizien für Hafflings Schuld.
Der Kommissar hält Baumann für einen Trittbrettfahrer, will sich auf keinerlei Unterredung einlassen und zweifelt an Baumanns psychischer Gesundheit. Doch Baumann beharrt darauf, der wahre Täter zu sein und will bestraft werden. Als sich der Kommissar notgedrungen zu der Stelle führen lässt, wo Baumann Miriams Leiche angeblich vergraben hat, schlagen die Spürhunde nicht an. Meuffels Zweifel scheinen sich bestätigt zu haben. Dann aber gibt Baumann weitere Details über das Opfer preis und Meuffels entscheidet sich, den alten Fall wieder aufzurollen. Damit begibt er sich nun auch selbst auf einen qualvollen Gang nach Canossa. (BR Presse)
