Obwohl Martina zu ihrem Mann Diether zurückgekehrt ist, setzt er seinen leichtsinnigen und verantwortungslosen Lebenswandel fort. Von Spielschulden getrieben, lässt er den Wald auf seinem Gut abholzen und jagt seinen Förster, der ihn vor diesem Schritt warnte, davon. Auch seinen eigenen Bruder wirft Diether hinaus. Beide Männer verlassen den störrischen „Riesen“ mit Drohungen.
Als Diether wenig später ermordet in seiner Berliner Wohnung aufgefunden wird, fällt der Verdacht auf den Förster. Schließlich aber gesteht Malte von Malchow die Tat: er wollte Martina, die er heimlich liebt, von ihrem tyrannischen Gatten befreien. Der Förster wird freigelassen und Martina kann ein neues Leben beginnen. Malte aber nimmt sich das Leben. (www.filmportal.de)
