Biographical Notes
Schauspielerin, Sängerin und Tänzerin des amerikanischen Films, eigentlich Margarita Cansino, aus einer Schauspielerfamilie stammend. Schulen in New York und Los Angeles, Partnerin mit ihrem Vater in Varietés mit spanischen Tänzen. Debutierte bei Fox in Nebenrollen unter ihrem bürgerlichen Namen als Rita Cansino, erste bedeutende Parts dann bei der Columbia in Rouben Mamoulians Blood and Sand 1940. Charles Vidor's "Gilda" stempelte sie zur Sexgöttin und dem Idol zahlreicher Pinup-Photos der Vierziger Jahre, das turbulente Privatleben der Schauspielerin und ihre zahlreichen Affairen und Ehen, u.a. mit Prinz Aga Khan, trug darüber hinaus zu ihrer Popularität bei. Zu ihren bedeutendsten Filmen zählt "The Lady from Shanghai" als Partnerin ihres zweiten Ehemannes Orson Welles. In den späten Jahren konnte die Hayworth leider nie mehr an die Erfolge der Vierziger Jahre anknüpfen.
