Leutnant Lobheimer vom 14. Dragonerregiment in Wien hat seit einiger Zeit eine Affäre mit der schönen Baronin Eggersdorf. Ihr bedeutet der junge Leutnant viel, Lobheimer dagegen bereitet die Liaison wachsendes Unbehagen. In dieser Situation begegnet er der reizenden Christine Weiring. Sie ist die Tochter eines Cellisten und von Natur aus zurückhaltend und empfindsam. Nach anfänglichem Zögern entwickelt sich eine tiefe Liebesbeziehung zwischen den beiden.
Doch gerade als Lobheimer endgültig mit der Baronin bricht, entdeckt deren Mann Beweise für ihre Untreue. Er besteht auf ein Duell und tötet den Leutnant mit dem ersten Schuss. Christine erfährt, was geschehen ist, und stürzt sich aus dem Fenster. (ARD Presse)
